Unlike bodybuilding, strongman training is definitely best done outside of the gym - out in the real world of the strongman. Unfortunately, if you don't have access to a full strongman course you could practice in a few times every week, we’re kind of limited to gym exercises plus some outdoor activities that can mimic the events you will be competing in. So, here are several exercises that you can do to teach for a few different competitions.

Carrying: One of the popular strongman events is carrying of various objects short distances. This events type of defines the whole sport, so make sure that you are packing on extra week face up, hands and feet and simulating how much time that you’ll be carrying competing.

Pulling: While you do have the option to get a big truck to fit in the parking lot of the local gym and get out there and try pull it, you'll find less complicated ways to plan for a pulling competition. What you need to do is locate a gym that has a prowler or perhaps a sled if you want to plan for a pulling content. In connection with pulling is flipping but for that you’ll probably need to find a real-world equivalent.

Squats: In terms of preparing for the squatting competition the best option is to do all the variations of squats you need to reach every single muscle group. That way you’ll be prepared for the increasing weight squats or squats for reps or anything your competition throws at you. Switch it between back squats and front squats to acquire as much area covered as you can.

Deadlifts: The main thing about deadlift practice is that you are going to want to practice your grip as much as the muscle it requires to lift things. Train your grip strength with wide barbell grips and simply get used to picking heavy stuff up off the floor.

Loading: The last strongman exercise that you could be preparing for will be the loading challenge. You’ll be collecting heavy objects and moving them a short distance away, usually up high on a shelf of sorts. This is done with atlas stones however you can find a substitute and exercise with it to simulate almost exactly how the loading will go. But you need to make sure that you lift it as you would a stone competing, that it is the right weight for anything you are training for understanding that your “practice stone” is about the same size and shape.
